Breakage or loss of surfboard or other gear is not included in our surf lesson price. We are not liable for any damages or loss of any equipment (e.g. surf board, personal belongings on beach or in the car etc.) while on our surfing tours. We do recommend to leave your most important valuables in your hotel room (don’t wear any jewelries, sunglasses or watches while surfing). We do not provide any kind of insurance while you're staying and surfing with us. Our guides will do their best that nothing happens to you while surfing, but even the bravest wave rider can get a smaller or bigger scratch. We just want to make sure that if this happens, you are able to get the best treatment with least of any worries. Keep your documents / insurance number ready and with you while going on a (surf) trip. As well we do recommend to have a travel insurance in case you need to cancle you're stay.

What happens when I have to cancel my booking?

Please contact us via email, if there is any reason you need to cancel your stay with us. We will go through the details according to our terms & conditions. How are the waves like in Kedungu?

Waves at our homebreak are mostly gentle & quite easy, but there are also some fast & tricky waves around in certain areas closeby or at days with higher swell. Most of the spots we surf are semi-reef-breaks, this means we have rocky bottom mixed with sandy sections.

The beginner surf lessons are held in a more shallow inlet close to shore well protected from bigger waves and strong currents. The important thing is that you know how to swim and you are able to put your head under water for a few seconds. For Kids below 10 years we do recommend to book a private 1:1 package. Surf board rental covers the time of the surf lesson only.

Where do we surf and how are the surf lessons organized?

We usually do surf at our home break (Kedungu Beach) or in the approximate area. If you are looking for a surfcamp which is driving to lots of different spots every day, we might not be your best choice, as we prefer it chilled and locally. But sometimes, if conditions are not so good in our area we will travel to other spots. We will make sure to choose the best timing for surfing, therefore we can set the time only one to two days in advance.

Our surf lessons are group classes but to guarantee a safe and efficient learning environment we do always teach with a 2:1 student to instructor ratio. And as every persons ability is individual, we divide our lessons into different levels. The sessions will take 1,5 - 2 hours in the water, the time in the water depends on your physical condition however is limited to 2 hours maximum.

Which surf level am I?

Beginner: This is the beginner level where we give you step by step tutorials on both the theory and practice of surfing. Surfing sessions are first focused on catching and riding easy white waves with video analysis at the Villa afterward.

Intermediate: Intermediate level is for guests who have mastered the basics but wish to progress to deeper swells. We guide you to Kedungu’s excellent intermediate breaks and provide tailored advice and guidance to help you progress.

What is the water temperature?

The water temperature in Bali is tropical all year round, so perfect for bikinis and boardshorts! During the dry season which is also the wind season (July-September) you might want to go with a light wetsuite if you're freezing easily.

What is the best time to visit?

Dry season, usually from June till September, is mostly less hot and humid, but at times very windy and therefore can be a bit chilly for people who are easily getting cold. As long as you’re not in the water you will be completely fine and it is nice to explore Bali’s coast during these times. Wind direction is mostly off-shore on our coast side, and this is also the time with the biggest swells arriving in Bali. Consider it is also high season and the south is more crowded and there will be a lot of traffic in general.

Shoulder seasons (April till June / September till December) are mostly very hot and humid months, with still plenty of good swells arriving and sunny days sometimes even without any winds throughout the days.

Rainy season (December till March) is gaining in popularity as waves are relatively uncrowded while still retaining great surf conditions most of the time. It is warm and humid with periods of occasional heavy rains. But rains often take place in the night and are rarely continuous all day long. Many surfers say this is an excellent time to be here as everything is lush and green, it’s not too hot, not so busy, and the surf is exciting.

What equipment will be provided?

We provide everything necessary for surfing, including surf boards and long-sleeved rash guards. All you need to bring are beach shorts or bikinis and a beach towel. We do also advise either a high SPF sun cream or a good quality zinc oxide sunscreen.

What happens when the surf board breaks?

Breakage or loss of surfboard and other gear: We are not liable for any damages or loss of any equipment (e.g. surf board, personal belongings on beach or in the car etc.) while on our surfing trips. We do recommend to leave your most important valuables in your hotel room (don’t wear any jewelries, sunglasses or watches while surfing). It’s also well worth to check with your (travel) insurance what’s included in the unlucky event of any loss or breakage of anything you use/rent/own.

Are towels Provided?

Yes, we supply towels for your room and towels for the swimming pool, but please bring your own beach towel.

Are there shops located nearby?

Yes. Although we are in a quite secluded stretch of beach we have several cafes and shops in the area for you to explore the local cuisine. Near the villa there is Cafe Ceylon or Cantina providing reasonably priced options. There are also several cafes in Weligama (which is a 15-minute tuk tuk ride). If you are willing to commute a bit further, Galle Fort’s winding cobblestoned streets abound with shops and cafes to explore (30 mins by tuk tuk). Please ask our friendly staff for their favourite recommendations.

What is the food like?

Solas aims to provide you with food that is healthy, fresh and delicious. Our food selection is sourced almost entirely locally and based on seasonal availability. Vegetables are harvested from our own farm and supplemented with produce from local farmers. All other food items are sourced from suppliers reputed for sustainable and ethical standards. Daily breakfast and five dinners are included in the weekly package, which feature a mix of Sri Lankan must-try specialties and international dishes prepared in our in-house kitchen. If you choose to have lunch at Solas, the café menu provides an array of food and beverage options..

What to bring along for the holiday?

Bring along good sun cream or other sun protection for surfing (we do provide long sleeve rush shirts) and your (re-)fillable water bottle. To check if there are any RefillStations close by download this App:

Can we arrange an airport pick-up??

Yes sure we can arrange a pick-up from the airport or any other place on Bali for an extra charge. If you have a booking with us, we will send you a message one week before arrival to see if you would like to arrange a driver. If you arrivae later than 20:00 in the evening we recommend to use our airport pick-up service. Otherwise you can also arrive to our place ordering one of the online taxis here in Bali (book them via the app, there is Go-Jek, Grab or BlueBird Taxi available).
