Surf Seasons, Spots & Surf Skill Levels in Kedungu, Bali

Discover everything you need to know before paddling out at Kedungu Beach — from when to come, to the spots and waves you’ll surf, and choosing the right coaching level.

Warm water and sunshine bless Bali year-round, while each season brings its own surf vibe. The island’s west coast is at its best for surfing from April to November — with mostly sunny days, just the occasional tropical shower, and consistent swells paired with light offshore winds.Perks of traveling off-season include fewer crowds and more affordable prices — that’s also when our Seaside Tribe rates are lowest.

Consistent swells, mostly offshore winds, and plenty of sunshine — ideal for steady surf days and exploring after your sessions. Especially in July and August, when Bali feels a little cooler and breezier, the water can also be slightly fresher, so bringing a shorty or light wetsuit top is a good idea if you’re sensitive.

Expect mellow, glassy mornings and playful waves through most of the shoulder season — small to medium swells with the occasional bigger pulse in between. Ideal for exploring hidden gems along the west coast. It’s also the hottest and most humid time of the year, so pack light and stay hydrated.

More variable, with the odd wet or windy day — or even a week. When Kedungu isn’t at its best, we’ll head to other spots that stay fun, though it can mean a longer drive. Good waves are still around, often with fewer people in the lineup. The weather shifts from hot and humid to the occasional chill, with passing monsoon showers ranging from light to heavy.

We match the spot and coaching to your skills and the conditions of the day. Whenever possible, we head out as one tribe, keeping the vibe social while splitting into smaller level-based groups for semi-private coaching.

No or very little experience? We’ll start from scratch — paddling, popping up, and catching white-water waves out in the line-up, so it already feels like real surfing — then guide you to your first green wave.

You’ve surfed a few times and can stand up in white water or small green waves. We’ll refine your technique, teach you to read waves and help you transition from soft-top to hard-top boards.

You feel comfortable in the line-up and know the basic surf etiquette. You can take off on small to medium sized left- and right-hand waves and make gentle bottom or top turns. The focus is on improving timing, trimming along the face, and learning to spot the best waves by yourself.

You’re confident in a range of conditions and can link smooth bottom and top turns. You read the line-up well and start to position yourself for steeper take-offs or longer rides. The goal is to refine technique, improve style, and make consistently smart wave choices to level up your surfing.

You’re confident in any condition and just want to chase good waves with a friendly local. We’re happy to share smiles, a few tips, and point you toward our favorite breaks — but if you’re already ripping, think of us more as a surf buddy and guide than a technical coach.

A shared Dream of Waves, Community & Caring for Mother Earth

What started as a mobile surf school run by Adi & Irene many years ago has grown into Seaside Tribe — a boutique Surf & Stay in Kedungu, Bali. 

The dream of creating our own surf camp & retreat lived in our hearts for a long time, and with the birth of our son, Noi, we finally set sail and began building a new chapter. The result is a place shaped by Balinese craftsmanship and Swiss attention to detail, infused with our love for the ocean, belonging, and the island we call home.

Every now and then we will do a Bonfire or Beach-BBQ.
